I always hoped for a daughter. And, honestly, I never really thought about what having a daughter would look like. I assumed we would share interests, style, humor. She would be like me.
I was blessed with two daughters.
I see pieces of what I imagined, but what strikes me is the strength, power and determination that lies in their eyes. They have this power that hasn’t been conditioned out of them; a raw energy yearning to explode forth and captivate the world in it’s endlessness.
You see a better world when you look through their lens. You see every possibility, every mountain. Nobody has told them the mountain is “too tall for them”. They believe, and rightfully so, that they will scale the mountain and place a rock on top to make it a little bit taller. You understand that your job, as their parent, isn’t to build that fire and strength. They already have it. Your job is to nurture, grow and protect that fire. To safe guard it from those who would try to extinguish it and rob the world of everything they can do. To teach them how to believe in their fire so much that it won’t be put out.
Strong Girl Sports came out of my husband and I talking about nurturing and growing the fire in our girls. We want to do the same for others too.
Strong Girl Sports aims to provide a community for girls. To help them tap into the strength already inside while supporting their goals and dreams. We want to help them step into their power and realize the absolute force they are. To provide a resource for coaches to encourage positive coaching practices and help develop girls to reach the very best version of themselves. Finally, a space for parents to also find support and information on the amazing opportunity they have to help their daughters shine.
Building Strong Girl Sports has already been so incredible and has had an unintended effect of empowering me to dig in, find MY strength and grow it. A beautiful gift my daughters have already given me. I thought I would be raising them; they are raising me.
